Patterns and Colour
- Ashlar slate and random stone — the most popular around here; forgiving, natural, and it hides dirt well.
- Running bond and herringbone brick — good match for older East Aurora and South Buffalo homes.
- Wood plank — a modern look, especially on covered patios and porches.
- Seamless texture — subtle stone texture with no repeating pattern; a quiet choice for a large field.
- Borders, bands and medallions — a contrasting soldier-course border or a saw-cut band is the single cheapest way to make a stamped patio look custom.
Colour comes from integral pigment in the mix, a release colour worked into the stamp, and antiquing or stain applied afterwards. Using two or three of those together is what separates stamped concrete that looks like stone from stamped concrete that looks like stamped concrete.
Stained and Coloured Concrete
Not every patio needs a stamp. Some of our best work is a plain-formed slab with integral colour and a clean hand-tooled border — the tan patio behind a screened porch in East Aurora shown on this page is exactly that. Stain and colour cost less than a full stamp, keep the texture broom-safe underfoot, and suit a house where a heavy stone pattern would feel like too much.
Sealing Matters More Here
Sealer is what protects the colour, and in this climate it is not optional. Between freeze-thaw cycling, snow sitting on the slab for months, and salt tracked in from the driveway, an unsealed stamped patio fades and surface-spalls fast. We seal every stamped and stained patio on completion, and we tell you plainly that it needs re-sealing every two to three years — that is the maintenance trade you accept when you choose stamped concrete, and you should hear it before you buy, not after.
We also keep de-icing salt off new decorative concrete for the first full winter. Sand for traction is fine. Rock salt on a slab that has not fully cured is the fastest way to ruin a surface you just paid for.
What a Stamped Patio Costs in Western New York
Around Erie County, a stamped concrete patio typically runs $12 to $22 per square foot installed. A single pattern in one colour sits at the low end. Multiple colours, contrasting borders, saw-cut detail, and hand-antiquing move it up. A plain broom-finished or lightly coloured patio runs closer to $8 to $14 per square foot. Site prep, access for the truck, tear-out of an existing slab, and any grade or drainage work are priced separately and shown as line items on your written estimate.
